Les Éditions du Cordeau ont le plaisir d’annoncer la parution de

 premier livre en langue française consacré à l’illustre ténor américain d’origine italienne.

 Cet ouvrage, préfacé par sa fille, Ellisa Lanza-Bregman, célèbre un homme disparu à Rome en 1959 à l’âge de 38 ans en pleine gloire mondiale de ténor et d’acteur de cinéma dont la voix, le chant et le charisme ont fait un artiste de légende, référence pour ses pairs et ses contemporains et inspiration pour les artistes de notre temps tels que Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, Placido Domingo, Roberto Alagna, Joseph Calleja et tant d’autres qui ont vu en lui la source de leur vocation.

L’opéra en tant que tel a une immense dette envers Mario Lanza qui l’ouvrit au très grand public grâce au cinéma dont il devint une star planétaire par sa voix, son physique et sa personnalité solaire et généreuse et ses films dont  le mythique « Le Grand Caruso ».

Sa voix sans égale (« non par » a dit, bien après Maria Callas, le grand chef Sir Antonio Pappano,) et son chant ont passé « le test du temps », a écrit Placido Domingo et ils n’ont cessé de transmettre émotion, poésie et passion, ce dont attestent les rééditions innombrables et quasi annuelles de ses disques, sa place sur l’internet, You Tube, les sites dédiés, les forums de discussion, les biographies, notices, monographies et articles en diverses langues dont le japonais et les films et documentaires, concerts, disques d’hommages, « tributes », manifestations, concours, festivals et fans clubs ou institutions qui dans le monde portent son nom et donnent vie à son souvenir.

Sa vie propre fut le reflet de sa voix, inclassable et romanesque.

Ce livre, qui n’est pas un roman, en fait le récit et cherche à comprendre pourquoi l’homme n’a pas cessé de toucher les cœurs et pourquoi il renaît ou demeure.

Dear friends and admirers of Mario Lanza,

We have the pleasure to announce the publication in France of the book, “Mario Lanza, la Voix du Coeur, “The Voice From the Heart”, which is the first book on Mario Lanza to be published in french.

Needless to say, the authors do not hide their admiration and passion for the “Legendary Tenor”, but beyond the story of a life and career with their ups and downs, our common destiny, they try, as we all do, to understand the reasons of the everlasting interest, frenzy, love and respect that his singing still inspires.

In times when “stars” and public persons, especially in arts and in show business as a whole, are forgotten or fall down almost overnight, in times of media and social networks when the offer in art and opera is so wide and rich and competitive, this young man, Mario Lanza, is still in the race, and most of the time he is running ahead.

What do we see? We see young generations in the public or among singers and new stars of opera give a new breath to Mario Lanza’s intact popularity; we see people understanding now why their parents loved Mario Lanza so much. And they join… We have seen this Italian young man, an accomplished student singer – a tenor- met in France during a master class on the “Magic Flute”, smiling with tenderness while listening through his ear-pods to the very first words and notes of an aria that we gave him: he had instantly recognized the great voice and he shook his head with disbelief and said only: “Ah! Mario Lanza !” Those three words and the way they were told said it all, admiration and affection; or that young couple, also italians, met in a disc store of classical music in Paris, listening religiously to Mario Lanza’s “Testa adorata” from Leoncavallo’s Boheme, breathing with emotion at the end and looking at each other…He knew Mario Lanza and she did not. She just whispered : “Oh Dio !

And have you seen those many people on You Tube blessing Mario Lanza’soul and praying for him? That is not common. As far as I know, it’s unique.

So? So, as we suspect, the beauty of the voice, be it a God given “natural” voice, is only one part of the explanation of such a living and loving memory surrounding this young man sixty years after his passing. This “rebirth” is simply unique, “par non”, as Sir Antonio Papano said on You Tube about Mario Lanza. Its explanation lies not only with that voice, a voice of our time, as if recorded this morning, but also with the qualities of heart of a handsome person blooming with true, genuine emotion, poetry and personal charisma and conveying the inner beauty of a human soul.

One day in Paris, an israëli orchestra director of Argentinian origin, touched his heart with his forefinger and said to one of the authors : “Mario Lanza cantaba con su neshama.”
